Search most places online and you will see "Sell An Ebook On Amazon! Its Easy!"
One of the the ideas behind this website was the very realistic fact that that one bold sentence does not work.
Yes, Amazon KDP has a lot going for it:
Even when you ask ChatGPT about selling ebooks on Amazon, it has the following response:
"Amazon KDP → Readers are already searching; you just optimize your keywords and cover = organic sales."
If that is the case, then why aren't people buying ebook and making authors tons?
Successful authors are all the rage because they are news worthy. So, what then? All authors jump onto Kindle and start selling.
What does this do?
So you place an ebook on Amazon KDP. Place a decent amount of keywords into the sales page and price it nicely- roughly around the market average.
Then.
No sales.
You place another ebook. Something similar to the first so Amazon will pick it up in "recommended" or "also bought" sections. You do exactly the same- price, content etc.
And...
Still nothing.
You wait. A week, a month.
Nothing still.
So what is going on.
Because of the many ebooks that Amazon gets, how does it say yours is better than someone elses? There are only a few ways:
Stars, reviews and sales go hand in hand.
And that is why you don't get anywhere.
It is because you need the first spark to kick start Amazons internal review system. Once you get sales then you get reviews, stars and Amazon gets data.
This kicks in Amazons system and you show up more higher on Amazons ranking (we go more deeply into this in that link). You get more sales. The loop continues.
But...if you send a whole host of people to your KDP page then that gets flagged and Amazon watches. If no one buys then:
So you have to be careful, because Amazon has another trick. It dampens the traffic positives. So it knows if there are flash sales. Sales and positioning go up but they also drop pretty quick if the traffic gushes then turns off.
And those well known authors? Same thing. Only a few authors are making a ton, the rest, very little.
Again, this is just not us saying this. ChatGPT states the same (when pushed):
If initial sales are the main ranking fire to sell an ebook on Amazon then we need to get people to look and then buy our ebook.
But. If we are selling an ebook for $2.99 the chances of us making any money through things like paid ads are very minimal.
So we have options:
Unfortunately they all have a learning curve but all of them are very simple to set up. For our Pins we have daily 10s of visits. Not too much but we have many Pins...which all add up.
We have a Youtube channel that we applied screen grabs and we get a minimal amount of traffic. However we also convert those videos into Shorts. This generates traffic with the same content. And that content? It is so very specific that we get KDP sales with a very minimal amount of traffic.
We did guest posting on our previous sites. You get instant traffic and you get a decent link back to your site. And that traffic and link thats put- even if the traffic slightly drops.
Amazon is a selling machine with traffic. But. It needs to be fed first and then it can help you.
Authors who have been successful start with traffic and then they send that traffic to an ebook which they know the traffic will love.
Right price, right traffic, right way to view and buy are the key ways to sell and ebook on Amazon.
