Bargain Booksy sounds very familiar to FreeBooksy right? Both are similar to the Bookbub business model (also both are from the same company). That is sending your ebook to email lists of thousands of subscribers who are interested in your topic..and are expecting to be free (Freebooksy) or to pay for something.
Unlike Freebooksy, which focuses on free ebooks, Bargain Booksy specializes in discounted ebooks priced between $0.99 and $4.99.
Bargain Booksy promotes discounted ebooks to its large subscriber base. Authors pay for a feature, and their discounted ebook is included in:
Pricing depends on genre and book price, but typically ranges from $25–$200 for a one-day promotion.
Any case studies?
it was hard to find people who directly used the service and stated online. So we went with some of the testimonials that appear on the site:
A romance author. Bargain Booksy + Freebooksy Stacking
Romance authors report strong results when combining Freebooksy (for free promos) with Bargain Booksy (for discounted titles). Authors typically see hundreds of discounted sales when priced at $0.99. This effect compounds when used as part of a series promotion, where book one is discounted and follow-ups are full price.
The idea here is to use Bargain Booksy strengths which seem to be:
But. We have some negatives:
What a lot of people who use these services forget about is you are probably going to get some downloads from people who are therefore into your ebook and topic. You must have a way to figure out how to capture that audience so that you can tell them about up and coming promotions/ books without having to rely heavily upon these platforms.
However, if you can figure out a way to get people to subscribe to a social platform or your newsletter- and it is a decent amount (like in the hundreds). Then it might even be cheaper to do a couple of promotions per year to increase your subscriber base?
But those subscribers need to do something- buy a book, read a Kindle Unlimited book to make the promotions work while.
Through research it has been found that your should discount strategically – $0.99 is the sweet spot for volume; $1.99–$2.99 can work if you have an established audience.
Bargain Booksy (and other platforms) work best when they work together. If you pair FreeBooksy with Bargain Booksy you can use a raft of promotions to start a wave of sales which increases your Amazon rank, gets reviews and stars.
On Bargain Booksy's website they even elude to this. In a multi-promo event (including Bargain Booksy & Freebooksy), authors collectively moved 10,820 units over several months. it was mentioned that Bargain Booksy was a significant contributor, especially for paid sales.
We must also think of these mass blasts of subscribers as the top of the funnel. If you allow them to travel down the funnel to one ebook then that is OK. But why not have a series or ebooks that are very related to one another? In this scenario you are promoting one ebook but potentially going to sell more. Now those other ebooks are going to sell less instantly but you have just gained "free" sales. Also not forgetting trickle sales in the future.
True? yep. Check out what their own internal data says. It shows that Bargain Booksy is most effective for discounted series starters. Many authors reported positive return on investment — with paid sales of follow-up books covering the cost of the promotion.
And who says that you can not throw subscribers from your discounted ebook to an Amazon Unlimited ebook and gain page view revenue?
