The Best Ebook Content (That People Will Actually Pay For)? Here's How To Make It.

best ebook content

The best ebook content needs to start off small.

People say "write what you like and enjoy". I like movies but can en ebook be written about that?

How about a series of articles, web content and then an ebook?

The unfortunate issue with this is that you shouldnt create a product before going through the following steps. The main one: figuring out if people are going to buy something like that first.
That sounds like it would create a package of information to draw people to your website and then sell them on something that they are looking for.

So now we are working backwards.

  • Before you create an ebook about movies,
  • you need to presell your ebook.
  • Before preselling your best ebook content you then need to figure out who is going to be attracted to those articles in the first place
  • now you need to look around online to where that audience is- forums, Facebook, Youtube etc
  • Before you do that :) you need to figure out who exactly is your target audience.

If you don't know your audience then all the best content in the world won't do anything to sell your ebook.

I am a big fan of the movie The Usual Suspects. Can I make an ebook from that?

Maybe.

It is an old movie so the fans of it are going to be pretty slim now and maybe not enough to create an income. However, the genre can.

The genre is crime, mystery and thriller (according to the IMDb). Now I would assume that there are plenty of crime, mystery and thriller fans out there (you could focus on one or all three). So you would search for fan pages of these different genres. Most will discuss their own stories, their own ideas, theories, behind the scenes and pictures etc.

The bait to tempt them to come to your site would be kinda easy to create. Say:

  • the 20 best crime/ mystery/ thrillers rated by you (and have a poll)
  • the 20 best crime/ mystery/ thrillers rated by the best reviewers
  • the top 5 crime/ mystery/ thrillers where the killer got away
  • what happens after the Usual Suspects ends
  • spin off the characters

You can see where this leads. People then start to interact and you start to get a picture of what they want and what they are into. They subscribe to your newsletter/ feed/ Facebook page etc.

Regardless of what you hear, to create the best ebook content you need...

For this to work, communication and interaction are the key. You will fail if you don't listen to the people who are going to buy your stuff (eventually).

Then start to review and promote other peoples work, like fan fiction. Create your own fan fiction.
Stephenie Meyer, who created Twilight, wrote fan fiction which then took off because, her audience loved that work. It is not to everyones tastes, but who cares- that is not her audience. Everyone is never an audience.

Then you can start thinking if you want to keep on creating fan fiction- creating your own series of books which can be very successful. Or you can create other ebooks that are completely different but still on target.

What would happen if you started to interview the writers of ebooks and movies that have become successful? You could ask about:

  • Their process for writing
  • their process for creating a movie script
  • how to break into a hard genre
  • how to create an awesome twist?

Think and understand what your audience would like to know.

Now you could transcribe these interviews into an ebook and then have a Skype session with those people. Now, not everyone of them would answer you, but it is very likely that most will. Especially if you already have a website and a following behind you as it also gives them some audience.

I contacted the Batman Animated musician Kristopher Carter- who is awesome, to ask a couple of questions regarding the music for the series. After a while, he answered and was very nice.

The theory is that you ask multiple writers- so 20. If 5 decline, at least you are left with a decent number to talk to. Just make sure that they are relevent to your genre.

Now you have one of the best ebook content for a specific niche. A large ebook with details on how to make it in the business, video grabs and maybe some important tips and points as an additional bonus. If made well it would probably sell for over $50 because:

  • it is super specific
  • it has industry know-how
  • it collates all the information that people are looking for in one easily digestible source
  • it is unique- hard to copy and hard to figure out the true cost to try and compare

You could then add an affiliate program to it. You give a person a percentage of the sale because they have driven people to your sales page. This then increases your revenue and also adds more people to your newsletter list who you might not have been able to acquire.

So making the best ebook content is really...

Finding out:

  • what a target audience wants (before you write anything)
  • is it a buying audience. E.g. free computer background picture seekers are less likley to spend money.
  • interacting with the community and start to give away content. See what they like and don't like. What pages have more traffic, what is talked about more, what feedback are they giving you?
  • create an ebook about something that will help that audience. Create it in such a way that it just shouts out quality. It must be something that offers high gain for little effort/ expense.
